Ok, so now that COvid is petering out, or so we all think/hope it’s time to get back in the groove of life. In addition to getting COvid at least twice, I have been triple-vaxed and am on my way to my fourth vax in a few weeks. Now, I do not want to start any kind of vax debate, you do you and I do me. I chose to get vaxed because I felt it was best for me. I am asthmatic and have more than a few autoimmune issues, so getting vaxed felt like the right thing to do- for me.
ANYWAY!
I was just pulling out of a significant injury (bike crash), illness, and recovering from eye surgery (a vision problem that resulted in the bike crash), and that’s when COvid hit. We experienced some pretty radical lockdowns in Israel and my whole routine got thrown off-kilter. I basically stopped working out and doing any exercise, period. Weird, huh? I have a thyroid issue (Hashimoto’s) and so for me, the result is when I smell food or even think about it, I get fat. SERIOUSLY! I have to exercise an abnormal amount to maintain my weight and not gain, even with a very good diet. So… suffice it to say I GOT FAT! VERY FAT! I am also a competitive Master’s swimmer and that’s my go-to cathartic exercise, so not having access to a pool, lake or ocean sent me to a very dark place.
But now I’m pulling out of it.
I have been swimming (you can read more about my swimming adventures here) and I just started running, and put my bike on the trainer, so I decided to get back in the game and sign up for a triathlon, but not just any triathlon, a 70.3 Ironman triathlon! The Tiberias 70.3 Ironman here in Israel on November 25, 2022. It’s 8.5 months from today! I am working out a training schedule, going back to a more plant-based diet, and going to wrap my mind around it. I will do a few sprints and try one Olympic distance one, but the 70.3 is my goal race. I paid a ton of money to register, so that’s a motivating factor as well.
Some more things about me, I am 56 (57 in August) and I am a Savta (grandma). I work in social media, technical writing, and I do freelance photography. I am very active and stay busy, so this should be a fun adventure!
I hope you will enjoy reading about my 70.3 Iron Dream and share thoughts of encouragement and share your triathlon stories with me. Maybe you too will be inspired to start (or restart) your own Triathlon journey with me.
We Got This!
